Yesterday, a Whiting, Indiana man was denied bail. Thomas Piatek was sent to Detroit to face charges in an alleged plot to kill police officers. Piatek and eight other people allegedly involved are part of a Michigan-based group called the Hutaree. The group’s quick rise to notoriety has people across the country sounding alarms about a general increase in militia activity. But are the Hutaree really representative of the average militia? We’re joined by sociologist Amy Cooter, a PhD student in sociology at the University of Michigan.
