In 1983, Harold Washington mobilized blacks, whites and Latinos with a call for the end of one-party control. Nearly three decades later Chicagoans will have the opportunity for new leadership at City Hall. With it comes the possibility to elect a Mayor of color. A number of black and Latino candidates are among those vying to succeed Mayor Daley. But could Chicago’s two largest minority groups agree once again on a single candidate?

Nena Torres, professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and former member of Harold Washington’s administration, and Alton Miller, the associate dean of the school of media arts at Columbia College Chicago and former press secretary and speechwriter for Mayor Washington, sat down with Alison Cuddy to talk about that very possibility.
