The University of Illinois’ finances are in trouble but why and how much depends on who you ask. The State of Illinois owes the university hundreds of millions of dollars and programs across the state face potential cuts. Already, more than 10,000 Uof I employees have been forced to chose between furlough days or less pay.

Howard Bunsis is a professor of accounting at Eastern Michigan University who has analyzed the University of Illinois’ finances only to conclude that they come out solid. Bunsis is an officer with the American Association of University Professors and the author of a report on the University of Illinois’ finances.
