Jazz Vocalist, Tough Broad Anita O’Day Revisited on DVD

Chicago-born Anita O'Day was a tough broad, in the most respected sense, and one of the greatest jazz vocalists of our time. She performed with some of the biggest bands of her day—Gene Krupa, Woody Herman and Stan Kenton. And her distinct voice and perfect rhythm launched her into the spotlight, time and time again. The documentary, Anita O'Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer, captures her presence and legacy. Its recent release on DVD made us want to revisit a 2008 interview with the filmmaker, Robbie Cavolina.
