It was more than two years ago that the mobile phone company Sprint started hyping a new frontier in wireless internet technology and saying Chicagoans would be among the first to get it. WiMax, or 4G, is finally starting to take shape in the city. Sprint launched its service a month ago —with plenty of ads to let you know about it. And the Windy City’s 4G options expanded yesterday with the entrance of Comcast, into the local wireless market. But is WiMax worth the hype? Wailin Wong writes about technology for the Chicago Tribune and she explains 4G.
