President Barack Obama’s time as an organizer on Chicago’s South Side won him kudos among his followers. Tomorrow the topic of community activism will be part of a day-long symposium at John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Among the participants are law professor Laura Beth Nielsen and community organizer Judy Hertz. They discuss contemporary community organizing.

Laura Beth Nielsen is a research professor at the American Bar Foundation, a Professor of Sociology and Law at Northwestern University and the author of numerous books on civil rights and inequalities. Judy Hertz is the Director of Special Projects at the Midwest Academy, a group that does training and consulting for activist organizations.
