The Chicago Police Department is greatly expanding its use of Taser guns. Tasers are weapons – they work by firing electrodes into a body, causing a disruption in the brain’s ability to control the body’s muscles. Though they cause pain in most cases, they aren’t supposed to be lethal. Still the CPD move is controversial. To get an idea of why, we traveled downstate to talk with one man who says he was the victim of Taser misuse. WBEZ’s Natalie Moore has his story. Anthony Williams talked to WBEZ’s Natalie Moore at Menard, a maximum security prison in downstate Illinois. Williams is in jail for first degree murder.
