The summer of '59 was special to Chicago White Sox fans not just because it was the first year the team played in the World Series since the 1919 Black Sox scandal, but because it was the first year the club was under the ownership of Chicago native Bill Veeck. Veeck, known as a "people's owner," was one of the most colorful characters in the history of American sports.
