Musician Ezra Furman has shed his band the Harpoons, but only for the moment. He’s out now touring in support of his new solo record, The Year of No Returning

His evocative voice has a certain charisma to it. It sounds brittle and ferocious, all at once. His lyrics and music have a similar quality to them.

He joins Eight Forty-Eight to talk about his new release, about some fights he’s won and lost and about going it alone - for a little while, at least.

He’ll perform a pair of shows this Saturday night at Schubas in Chicago (7pm all-ages, and 10pm 21+).
