Richard Stamz was a pioneering disc jockey and one of the first African Americans to host his own television show. The story of his life is the subject of the new book – Give ‘Em Soul, Richard! Race, Radio & Rhythm & Blues in Chicago. Stamz co-wrote it with his friend Patrick Roberts. Our own Richard–Richard Steele–was also friends with Stamz. He talks with Roberts about the book. Roberts says the sheer force of Stamz’s personality opened the door to many opportunities.Reception celebrating the book:
