Photographer Melissa Ann Pinney has been photographing girls and women for some time. She previously tracked the life of women from birth to death. But her latest book captures a smaller though fascinating transition: from girl to teenager.

Her photographs of adolescence are captured in the new book Girl Ascending. Host Alison Cuddy met up with Pinney at her home and studio in Evanston to talk about her images.

Melissa Ann Pinney will be at the Printer’s Row Lit Fest on Saturday, June 4. Alison Cuddy will be leading a panel discussion on the relationship between journalism, information and war on Sunday, June 5 at the same event.
