As if the news of Ron Santo’s passing wasn’t enough to sadden the Cubs organization, turns out any architectural plans for Wrigley Field might have to be shelved for now.

The Illinois Legislature did not consider a plan to fund the renovation of the Friendly Confines before the end of its fall veto session Thursday.

Owner Tom Ricketts wanted to use amusement tax growth over the next 35 years to pay for the rehab, which he estimated would cost $200 million. Originally, Ricketts said if state money fell through, the organization had no “Plan B.” But legislators did send team officials back to the drafting table with some other ideas for financing.
