Although there will only be one Chicago Cub on the All-Star roster this year, the Cubs had more impressive showings in the past. For a while, there was one player who practically had a permanent spot: Ernie Banks, “Mr. Cub,” made 13 All-Star appearances during his career.

His talent was so spectacular longtime Chicago Tribune sportswriter Phil Rogers referred to Bank’s talent as some sort of super gene. WBEZ’s Richard Steele recently sat down with Rogers to talk about his new book, Ernie Banks: Mr. Cub and the Summer of ’69.
