America might be the birthplace of jazz but Chicago has proven to be an excellent incubator of high-caliber jazz musicians, from Benny Goodman to Ramsey Lewis and Fred Anderson. And lest we forget, each year the Jazz Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Park District remind us with a concert series exploring Chicago’s contributions to jazz. JazzCity wraps up its 13th season Friday night with a performance by Reginald Robinson at 7 p.m. at La Follete Park.

The pianist is an acclaimed practitioner of one of the original forms of jazz: ragtime. He’s also out with a new collection of his work called “Reflections“.

Throughout “Eight Forty-Eight,” Robinson played some of his original ragtime compositions in the Jim and Kay Mabie Performance Studio.
