Anyone familiar with public radio knows the voice of Bob Edwards. Edwards was the co-host of All Things Considered before he helped NPR launch Morning Edition in 1979. Along the way, he mastered the art of conversation, created award-winning radio stories and helped NPR become the respected news organization it is today. Edwards had a very public parting with NPR in 2004; his side of the story is detailed in his new book A Voice in the Box: My Life In Radio. But the book is a lot more than Edwards dishing radio dirt: He talks about his personal life, favorite interview subjects and the people that have mattered most during his career. Eight Forty-Eight’s Jason Marck caught up with him recently to talk about his life as “the voice in the box.”
