'Red' and 'Tamara Drewe' continue the parade of graphic novel-to-film ventures

Films based on graphic novels are pretty much run of the mill by now – from Tank Girl to Jonah Hex and American Splendor. But the ones reviewed today mix it up a bit. One is a farce set in and around a couple of English country houses. And the other: guns popping, bones breaking, rock 'n' roll.

To discuss the pros and cons of these comic book crossovers we turned to TimeOut Chicago’s own comic genius Hank Sartin.

Tamara Drewe is out now at select theaters around the country. Red opens wide today.
