Renowned Chicago personal injury lawyer Phil Corboy passed away on Tuesday. Corboy made it his mission to change the stereotype of personal injury lawyers as sleazy, and judging by the way he has been remembered, he succeeded. His charitable work and advocacy, as well as his legal skill, has been widely praised.

Friday Eight Forty-Eight invites Bernard Judge, former editor of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, to stop by and remember Corboy. Judge remembers Corboy for his good relationship with reporters and editors alike during his years as editor, saying, “I’ve dealt with enough successful people in my career to know that when you do something they don’t like, that’s it, they’re done with you,” Judge said. But Corboy wasn’t like that. Judge also remembered Corby’s skill for mentorship, recalling that the lawfirm Corboy founded, Corboy and Demetrio, began to be known as Corboy college.
