Settlement Could Mean New Living Environments for State’s Mentally Ill

Over the next five years, thousands of Illinois’ mentally ill could move out of their current institutional homes and into smaller, community-based set-ups. That’s thanks to a landmark settlement reached yesterday in federal court. The lawsuit was filed by a number of groups against the State of Illinois. The American Civil Liberties Union is one of those groups, and we’re joined by the ACLU of Illinois’ associate legal director, Benjamin Wolf.
