As far as we know, there is no equivalent of the Loch Ness monster cruising the Great Lakes’ waters. But in recent years Asian carp have become something of a regional environmental menace because of their size, population and need to feed. Efforts to keep them out of the Great Lakes have involved dozens of municipal agencies and millions of federal dollars.

Now some Illinois residents are taking a different approach – sport fishing. Producers Dan Collison and Elizabeth Meister of Long Haul Productions brought “Eight Forty-Eight” the story. Partial funding for the story came from the Illinois Humanities Council.
