Let’s go back to one of the last times the Chicago Cubs actually went to the Fall Classic. Get this – they may have blown the game on purpose. In The Original Curse Chicago-based sports writer Sean Deveney explores how it was not only possible but probable that the Chicago Cubs fixed the series against the Boston Red Sox in 1918. And he makes the case that it was that nefarious deed, not goats or black cats that explains why the North-Siders haven’t won it all since 1908. Last November, Eight Forty-Eight’s Jason Marck talked with Deveney, who says the teams’ track records up to that point made their championship performances fishy.
