Forty years ago, one of the most significant spiritual writers of modern times died. Thomas Merton was a Trappist Monk who wrote about the monastic life in ways the average person could easily understand. 

Eight Forty-Eight contributor Judy Valente recently spoke with members of the Chicago Chapter of the Thomas Merton Society about Merton's enduring legacy and has this report.
