Amid all the holiday celebrations this weekend, there’s some edge. You’ll find it in The Chicago Yestet which includes saxophonist Pat Mallinger, keyboardist Dan Trudell and drummer Dana Hall among others. The jazz ensemble celebrates their new compact disc titled “Jazz Is Politics?” this Saturday night at the Green Mill.

Chicago composer, trombonist and artist Joel Adams leads “Yestet.” Adams uses his original compositions on the disc which are inspired by politically charged jazz and folk music and weave in spoken word commentary. Eight Forty-Eight’s Dan Bindert recently talked with Adams who says his work as a freelance illustrator often comes more easily to him than music.
