One of the big challenges facing Chicago’s newly-elected government is getting the city budget under control. As Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has found out, big budget fixes are easier said than done. Preckwinkle won the office last November.

Since taking office in December, much of her time has been spent trying to fix the county’s whopping budget deficit of $487 million but it’s been a bumpy road at times. Eight Forty-Eight spoke to President Preckwinkle to get a better idea of how the county plans to attack the deficit with Mayor-elect Emanuel.
