Transgender Issues in Illinois

When it comes to identification, most of us just have to remember to bring proof with us. But not for some patrons in Elk Grove Village, where a popular gay bar has started to require that a person's ID match his or her gender presentation. And this can be tricky for some customers who cross dress or who are transgender.

What are the legal and social hurdles that transgender people in Illinois face on a day-to-day basis? John Knight, director of the ACLU of Illinois' Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender project, helps answer these questions.
