But local transit advocates have long argued for more systemic changes like not relying on sales tax and real estate transfer taxes for funding. And lots of folks are thinking even bigger. Aaron Renn is an urban planning and transportation expert and blogger who calls himself “the Urbanophile.” He recently won a competition for ideas to revamp Chicago transit and he’s met a number of times with top CTA officials.
