Hundreds of millions of dollars are pouring into Illinois to fix-up roads and highways as part of the Recovery Act. That federal plan is meant to put people to work. But who’s doing all that work? Who’s getting all those road contracts? As part of our series, Hard Working, WBEZ analyzed contract documents from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Among other things, our analysis shows that minority- and women-owned businesses are getting only a small share of the money. WBEZ’s Adriene Hill has been working on the project and tells us more about her findings.
