Amidst all the electioneering on the national front, momentum has been building to overturn “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” That’s the federal law banning gays from serving openly in the military. But gay rights advocates had to postpone the celebration last week, when the Senate blocked a defense bill that included a repeal of the ban.

Military service is just one of the issues that the gay community is asking President Obama to act on. And given efforts by gay constituents to help him win numerous offices, they feel entitled to ask – even push. Obama and the Gays: A Political Marriage explores the push and pull of this evolving relationship. Windy City Media publisher Tracy Baim wrote the book and she discusses the relationship.
