What makes Dan Flavin’s fluorescent light tubes more artistically “enlightening” than industrial office decor? Helyn Goldenberg worked at the Museum of Contemporary Art in 1967 when Flavin installed a career-launching exhibit at the still-young museum. She describes the magic of the original exhibition and explores the artist’s mastery of what, under the hands of anyone else, would simply be fluorescent light bulbs.
