Classical music, does the phrase scare you? Do you feel like you can’t listen to it because its understanding is beyond your reach? Well, you’re not alone. For the past 10 years, Stephens Burns has been taking a similar approach with his Fulcrum Point Music Project. Burns has eased people fears about classical music by in part taking old structures out of the music and creating new music with ideas of today, and when it comes to inspiration it’s a wide open field. A Fulcrum Point performance also includes a heavy dose of visual art, dance, literature, poetry and commentary. For five years, Fulcrum Point has been mining these artistic expressions using as inspiration things that really makes us happy—water, earth, wind and fire.

The final installment of Essential Arts: Essential Elements is called Omega: Earth and Fire and it takes place March 18 at the Harris Theater.
