We celebrate the season with songs and stories about the holidays. First, native Welshman and University of Chicago professor Nick Rudall reads Dylan Thomas’s “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.” Then we hear “Arara Yemonya,” a Kwanzaa song performed by the Women of the Calibashi, followed by a song in Ladino-the language of the Jews from Spain-presented by Richard Kaplan. John McCutcheon recounts “Christmas in the Trenches,” a remarkable story about a temporary cease-fire during World War I. And local writer Jeffrey Essmann reflects on holiday lights and the “overcharged” Christmas of his childhood.
