Federal government wants to ban smoking in public housing

The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced today that it wants to ban smoking in public housing across the country, including in people’s apartments. If adopted, the new rule would affect nearly a million households.

Here & Now‘s Jeremy Hobson talks with Lourdes Castro Ramirez, principal deputy assistant secretary for the Office of Public and Indian Housing at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, about why HUD is proposing the ban, and how it would be enforced.
