Most Americans know February is Black History Month, but they’re less familiar is the man who created the precursor to the celebration – Negro History Week. That man was Carter G. Woodson.

From Here & Now contributor WAMU, Heather Taylor reports that Woodson used history to change the way the nation viewed African-Americans, and the way African-Americans viewed themselves.
