This week was the first time in 28 years that we didn’t call David Orr “Clerk Orr” That’s right…David Orr retired last Friday as Cook County Clerk. For the 12 years before he held that office, Orr was a Chicago alderman…one of a handful of progressives fighting the vaunted “Chicago Machine” that had dominated city politics for decades. He also served a brief stint as acting mayor…for about a week…after the sudden death of Harold Washington.  We sat down with Orr to talk about his lifetime of public service. He told stories from the past, and laid out his hopes for the future of the city and the county
