Law Allows Younger Organ Donors But Racial Disparities Still Prevalent

A law signed by Gov. Rauner on Tuesday lowers the age for Illinoisans to register as organ donors. Organ procurement groups like Gift of Hope say that younger donors are especially important in cities where violence and opioid addiction affects teens. But there are still populations that are hesitant to register.

We talk with Gift of Hope community affairs manager Marion Shuck about some of the concerns she addresses from the African American community. Also joining us is Dr. John Fung, Director of the Transplantation Institute at University of Chicago Medicine.
