More than 700 people died from opioid overdoses in Chicago in 2016. Experts say the combination of heroine and fentanyl has been particularly deadly. African Americans only make up 30 percent of the population in the city but accounted for almost half of those opioid overdose deaths.
The reasons for this troubling trend are complex and systemic. WBEZ news producer Lakeidra Chavis investigated the issue.
