With the violence in Chicago reaching record numbers, some are asking whether the cause of it is more than just gangs, poor policing and lack of economic development. Does the media and advertising - such as films, commercials and print- play a role in the violence that occurs mostly in our predominantly African-American communities? We talk with Tom Burrell, marketing pioneer and author of Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority, about whether the lack of positive portrayals of African-Americans in the media are grooming our kids into criminals.
