Agriculture’s impact on water resources in the Great Lakes
We’ve been covering Great Lakes water issues this week for our Front and Center series. One threat to the Great Lakes that’s getting a lot of attention? The toxic algal blooms on Lake Erie. The massive swaths of blue green muck have been wreaking havoc on the ecosystem of the lake. So what’s fueling the problem? And how can we protect the Great Lakes from further damage? Jeff Reutter is the Director of the Great Lakes Aquatic Ecosystem Research Consortium at Ohio State University. He’s been studying Lake Erie as an aquatic biologist since 1971 and gives us the rundown.
