Alt-Country Band Freakwater Play WBEZ
Some things are worth waiting for, like a new album from the long-running alt-country band Freakwater, which has roots in Chicago and Louisville.
Catherine Irwin and Janet Beveridge Bean have known each other since they were teenagers. They released their eponymous debut in 1989 with a sound that recalls the music of the legendary Carter Family: Plaintive, simple and sometimes rough, with harmonies that have been called acerbic.
The band’s new record Scheherazade is their first in 11 years, and it finds the duo and their band in top form.
As Freakwater wraps up a tour, they stop by the Morning Shift to share some songs off of their new release.
