Thursday, the White House launched a new task force to tackle the issue of antibiotic resistant bacteria. These so called Super Bugs infect millions and kill tens of thousands of Americans each year. The president’s science advisors yesterday called the situation a crisis in their new report, but critics think they were too soft on industry. These moves come in the wake of yet another report on bacteria. This one suggested that the bacteria in our gut can be changed by the consumption of artificial sweeteners and eventually lead to diabetes and obesity.
