Are unpaid internships a necessity or exploitative?
At Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, students pay $15,040 in quarterly tuition to work for free at required internships. Unpaid internships have become the norm for many college students - especially in journalism. But are they fair? ProPublica’s Kara Brandeisky tells us about the legality of unpaid internships, how some interns are fighting back and the effects this has on the industry.
