In the heyday of the family road trip, each part of the country had their go-to spots. Families on the East Coast might’ve headed to Colonial Williamsburg. West Coasters may choose to visit Yosemite. But Midwesterners likely recall piling into the family car to head to Wisconsin Dells, the Dunes, or Lake Geneva.

A new WTTW documentary, “Chicago On Vacation,” revisits the time-honored tradition of the family road trip, and takes a drive down memory lane to some of the Midwest’s top vacation spots.

WTTW host and producer Geoffrey Baer stops by the studio to talk about his favorite Midwest vacation spots—from the popular to the hidden gems.
