Sam Cooke conquered the sacred music of Chicago’s African American churches and then went on to knock the socks right off the pop music world by infusing it with his smooth soul sounds. Then, as quickly as he rose to fame, the legendary Chicagoan was gone. But his music lives on through radio, albums, cd’s, mp3’s, and in the show The Cooke Book: The Music of Sam Cooke. In August of 2014, multi-talented performer Darrian Ford brought his crack band in to perform some of Cooke’s greatest hits and lesser-known gems.
