Referred to by some as goth-pop, and compared at times to bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, My Gold Mask is certainly a descendant of sorts of ’80s new wave music. That said, you can also hear a little ’60s flavor mixed in there from time to time. In a recent interview for eMusic, writer Marissa M. Muller wrote of MGM that the band “features pleading vocals, spiraling guitar riffs and lyrics that grapple with psychosis and reference Gothic literature and Italo horror flicks. The result achieves a spellbinding emotional intensity that’s easy to inhabit.” Not bad! The band is out with its new album, Leave Me Midnight. My Gold Mask perform a record release show this Saturday, March 9th, at Schubas in Chicago.
