Three months ago, 1,100 workers walked off the job at BP’s Whiting, Indiana Refinery to go on strike. It’s one of the largest refineries in the nation and supplies much of the gasoline for the Chicago area. Through cold, wind or snow, strikers picketed day and night outside the refinery, but that effort could soon be winding down. That’s because Wednesday afternoon a tentative deal was struck between the United Steelworkers of American Local Seven One (7-1) and BP. WBEZ’s Michael Puente joins us now from our bureau in Crown Point to give us an idea of what’s in the deal and how soon union members may get back to work. (Flickr/JeepersMedia)
