Can You Sum Up Your Family’s Immigration Story In 6 Words?
Whether your ancestors came to America on the Mayflower or on a Boeing 747, chances are you come from a family of immigrants. A person’s story of coming to America is often long and complex, but author Larry Smith wants you to encapsulate your untold memoir in just six words. A part of the Six-Word Memoir Project, Smith’s new book “Six Words Fresh Off The Boat: Stories of Immigration, Identity and Coming to America” is a collection of short-form stories of immigration from celebrities, politicians, writers and everyday people. Morning Shift talks to Smith about his new book and learns his six-word story. We also open up the phones to hear listeners take a crack at making their own six-word memoir.
