Chicago is home to to some of the biggest names in jazz. Although the genre originated in New Orleans, traces of jazz culture can be seen throughout Chicago, especially on the city’s South Side. Musician, composer and educator Charles Heath works to keep jazz alive and well in Chicago through the project, Jazz’n on the South Side—a weekly series that brings some of the city’s best musicians together at the ETA Creative Arts theater. Artists such as The Willie Pickens Trio, Ari Brown Quartet and singer Dee Alexander have all headlined the showcase. Charles Heath is gearing up for another season of Jazz’n on the South Side and stops by to give us a rundown on what’s in store. Photo: Flickr/The DuSable
