The University of Chicago is the latest college to turn its back on a Chinese cultural studies program out of concern by a number of professors that the program blunts academic freedom. The Confucius Institute provides funding and teachers to schools around the world, but the restrictions placed on those teachers is causing pushback at some schools in the US and Canada. Last week the U of C decided not to renew its contract with the Institute. We get details on why the program presents problems and what needs to change.
