Back in the late 1970s, some DJs on Chicago’s South Side came together to form the Chosen Few DJs — a collective that played a new style of music.

That style used elements of disco, soul and some creativity to help forge house music. And every July 4th weekend since the early ’90s, the group puts on a music festival in Jackson Park that feels more like a family picnic. Now in its 29th year, the Chosen Few Picnic & House Music Festival will be held on Saturday, July 6, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Morning Shift talks to DJ and producer Terry Hunter for more on what to expect at this year’s all-day event.

GUEST: Terry Hunter, DJ with the collective Chosen Few DJs
