City Council Progressive Caucus wants more scrutiny on Mayor’s campaign contributions
Mayor Rahm Emanuel has received lots of campaign cash over the years from people in finance. And some of that money comes from firms that manage city pension money. There are some who say that is a clear violation of regulations set out by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Emanuel campaign spokesman Steve Mayberry says, "The donations are fully compliant with the law and the higher standards the Mayor voluntarily imposes on himself per his executive order." On Tuesday, a few aldermen from City Council’s Progressive Caucasus sent a letter for an investigation into the matter. So is this a perception problem or an actual violation? Kent Redfield is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Illinois-Springfield and he has some answers.
