The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is hosting a forum Thursday night with residents of Chicago’s Southeast Side who are upset over the release of harmful pet coke. The pet coke is trucked to sites near the Calumet River from BP Whiting, Indiana, refinery and other local steel mills. KCBX is contracted to store the pet coke so it can be transferred to foreign markets to be used as energy. But SE side residents say the pet coke is getting into the homes and harming their health.
